Hunters International Leaks Sensitive Company Data Online
Tata Technologies has found itself at the center of a major data leak after the Hunters International ransomware group published confidential information it claims to have stolen from the company. The leaked data, which was posted on the gang’s dark web leak site, includes personal details of current and former employees, purchase orders, and contracts with customers in both India and the United States.
According to the ransomware group, the data set includes over 730,000 documents, totaling 1.4 terabytes, including Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and PDF files. This breach follows a ransomware attack that Tata Technologies confirmed in January, which led to the suspension of some services but assured that client services remained unaffected.
The History of Cybersecurity Issues at Tata Group
The timing of the leak raises questions about the link between this recent attack and the ransomware breach disclosed by Tata Technologies earlier this year. However, Tata representatives have not yet commented on the situation.
Founded in 1989 as a unit of Tata Motors, Tata Technologies operates as a subsidiary of Tata Group and provides product engineering and R&D services to global industries, including automotive and aerospace. The company has a significant presence, with over 12,500 employees across 27 countries.
This data leak comes just months after another Tata Group company, Tata Power, was targeted by the Hive ransomware gang, which leaked information from their systems as well.
Hunters International’s Growing Threat
The Hunters International group, relatively new in the ransomware-as-a-service industry, leases its infrastructure to affiliate hackers, earning a cut of any ransom payments. The group has also been linked to the Hive gang, which faced significant law enforcement disruptions in 2023.
As cyberattacks continue to target high-profile companies like Tata Technologies, the global threat from ransomware shows no signs of slowing, and businesses worldwide are under increasing pressure to tighten their cybersecurity defenses.
Ongoing Investigation and Industry Impact
As of now, there has been no official response from Tata Technologies regarding the leak. The incident highlights the growing concerns over data privacy and the vulnerability of large corporations to increasingly sophisticated cybercriminal activities.
The aftermath of this breach could have significant legal and financial consequences for Tata Technologies, and may prompt further regulatory scrutiny into the company’s cybersecurity practices.
