SpaceX is making it easier to adopt Starlink by expanding its Starlink rooftop installation service from 12 to 35 US states. The option now appears when customers buy a Starlink dish through the residential plan.
For a flat fee of $199, SpaceX sends a certified technician from DSI Systems to handle rooftop installation. Customers also need to purchase a separate mount, which costs between $38 and $74, depending on the setup.
While Starlink dishes are easy to self-install, placing them on rooftops involves more tools and safety precautions. Many customers previously hired third-party professionals, often paying between $275 and $500. SpaceX’s in-house option now offers a lower-cost alternative.
The updated service now covers major states like California, Arizona, Illinois, Kansas, Pennsylvania, and Washington. You can view the full list on the Starlink support page.
SpaceX first introduced this service last year in just four states, then expanded it to 12. By offering professional installation in more areas, SpaceX aims to help users who might hesitate due to setup concerns.
To drive even more adoption, the company has launched new promotions. These include the residential lite plan, hardware discounts, and even free Starlink kits for customers who commit to a one-year plan.
In April, SpaceX offered free or discounted installations in North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee. That promotion ended, but the company may bring back similar offers. Interestingly, the Starlink checkout page claims users can “have Starlink permanently installed at your residence for free.” However, the $199 fee still appears at checkout. It’s unclear if this is a future deal, a teaser, or a technical mistake.
Independent installers are watching the situation closely. Many feel concerned that SpaceX is undercutting their business. Some also say DSI may rush installations to meet volume targets, potentially affecting quality. However, no major issues have surfaced.
By expanding its Starlink rooftop installation program and introducing flexible deals, SpaceX is making Starlink easier to adopt than ever. The move strengthens its position in a competitive market while helping more users connect—especially in remote and underserved areas.
