In 2024, Apple showcased an advanced Siri upgrade that promised deeper integration with apps. The company said this version would fetch information and complete tasks across different services. However, the feature has yet to launch, raising questions about its readiness.
Bloomberg now reports that Apple is testing a new Siri capable of performing actions within apps using voice commands. This is made possible through an updated version of App Intents, Apple’s framework that lets developers expose parts of their apps to systems like search and Shortcuts.
If the technology works as intended, users could tell Siri to find a photo, edit it, and send it to a contact. It could also post comments on social media, order rides, or log into services—all hands-free.
Apple is reportedly testing the feature with apps including Uber, AllTrails, Threads, Temu, Amazon, YouTube, Facebook, and WhatsApp. Bloomberg also noted that an overhauled Siri is planned for release in spring 2026.
By expanding Siri’s capabilities, Apple aims to position its voice assistant as a true productivity tool. The update could make iPhones more competitive in the AI-powered assistant race, especially against offerings from Google and Amazon.
