Social media is rapidly evolving into an AI-powered landscape, and Character.AI is stepping in with a bold new move. The popular AI chatbot platform announced on Monday that it is launching a social feed across its mobile apps, allowing users to create, share, and interact with AI-generated content. This shift transforms the app from a private chat experience into a dynamic, community-driven platform.
The new feed, which first launched on the web in June, lets users share AI-generated images, videos, and even snippets of their conversations with custom AI characters. They can post chat highlights, generate visual stories from dialogues, or host live debates where AI avatars discuss topics in real time.
A key feature is the integration of AvtarFX, Character.AI’s generative video model. Users can create video clips using simple text prompts or uploaded images, then publish them directly to the feed. This turns personal AI interactions into shareable, engaging content—perfect for storytelling, entertainment, or creative expression.
Karandeep Singh, CEO of Character.AI, said the feed blurs the line between creator and consumer. “You can come to Feed for a lean-back experience and watch content from our amazing creators,” he said. “But you can also take the story forward or create a new epic adventure.”
This move aligns with a growing trend among AI-native apps. As AI-generated videos flood platforms like TikTok and Instagram, companies are building spaces tailored for AI-born content. For example, video generation app Pika launched an invite-only social app in July, enabling users to create and post AI videos.
By adding a social layer, Character.AI aims to foster a creative ecosystem. Instead of isolated chats, users can now build audiences, collaborate, and remix content. A chat with a fantasy hero can become a shared comic. A debate between historical figures can go viral as a video.
The feed also encourages discovery. Users can explore trending characters, follow creators, and react to posts. Over time, this could turn popular AI personas into digital influencers—driven not by real people, but by user-designed personalities.
While the potential is exciting, challenges remain. Ensuring content safety, preventing misinformation, and managing deepfake risks are critical. Character.AI has not yet detailed its moderation policies, but these will be essential as the feed grows.
Still, the launch marks a significant step. It shows how AI is not just automating tasks—but reshaping how we create, share, and connect online.
